METRINCO introduces the M120B — a professional moisture meter for building materials

METRINCO expands its range of non-destructive moisture meters with the new M120B, developed primarily for the construction industry. Unlike the M120W, which is focused mainly on wood moisture control, the new model features an extended set of calibrations for building materials and a scanning depth increased to 100 mm.

The M120B is designed for monitoring the drying of screeds, plaster and concrete, locating areas of elevated moisture in walls and floors, acceptance of construction work, and checking structural timber. Measurement uses the non-destructive dielectric method and requires no piercing or damage to the surface.

21 calibration groups for building materials

One of the key differences of the M120B is its extended set of calibrations. The instrument stores 21 groups of building materials, including cement-sand screeds and mortars, plaster and self-levelling floors, concrete of various grades, aerated concrete of various densities, clay and sand-lime brick, fibre cement, natural stone and other materials.

Two additional groups for softwood and hardwood allow the M120B to be used for moisture control of beams, rafters, logs and other massive timber structures.

Scanning depth up to 100 mm

The scanning depth of the M120B has been increased to 100 mm — twice that of the M120W. This makes it possible to assess the moisture content not only of the surface layer but of a larger volume of material, which is particularly important when monitoring the drying of screeds, concrete structures and massive timber.

The actual measurement depth depends on the density, structure and moisture content of the material; nevertheless, the enlarged scanning zone makes the M120B significantly better suited to construction tasks.

New firmware and clear material selection

The instrument firmware has been redesigned for the M120B. Calibration groups are shown on the graphic display with their full names, with no need to memorise numeric or letter codes.

A dedicated over-range indication has also been implemented. If the moisture content of the material exceeds the upper limit of the selected calibration group, the instrument signals this with the symbol ">" instead of displaying an incorrect numeric value. During drying, once the moisture content enters the working range, the M120B automatically switches to displaying a numeric result.

Built for the construction site

The M120B comes with a reinforced high-visibility silicone bumper that protects the housing and at the same time makes the instrument easy to spot among tools on site. A rigid plastic carrying case for transport and storage is included as standard.

The measuring sensor consists of three spring-loaded stainless steel electrodes. They adapt to surface irregularities and ensure consistent fit when working with brick, plaster, concrete and rough-sawn timber.

The M120B as an evolving platform

The M120B was not conceived as a model with a fixed set of capabilities. METRINCO plans to further extend the list of supported materials and refine the calibrations as measurement data accumulates.

For M120B owners, updating the instrument to the current firmware version will be free of charge on request to the manufacturer. For professional and industrial customers, dedicated calibrations or custom firmware versions for specific materials and processes are also available.
