During the processing and gluing of wood veneers, the question of determining their relative humidity is extremely important.

The most accurate method of determining moisture content is laboratory-based, requiring special sample preparation, professional equipment and trained specialists, and most importantly, considerable measurement time, and is often not suitable for continuous industrial production.

Given that the thickness of sliced, peeled or sawn veneer can be less than 0.5-1 millimetre, the task of measuring its moisture content with standard wood moisture meters is difficult, as the scanning depth of non-destructive moisture meters is tens of millimetres, and to obtain reliable results, veneers have to be measured in packs.

This measurement method has a relatively high error rate (loose pressing of veneer sheets, the presence of an air gap between the sheets), and does not allow for the determination of the moisture content of individual sheets or individual areas of the sheet.
